Head to Head
A twist of the classic WipEout experience. The player has to out-speed their opponent, racing for the finish and their spot on the podium. This mode tracks the distancee between you and your rival and does not have weapons enabled.
In WipEout Pulse
This mode is available in both the racebox and campaign grids. In addition to the regular HUD, there is a piece of HUD only used in this mode to track the distance between the player and the rival.
In WipEout HD
While not available by default in the retail version, by editing line 42 of the file data00/data/plugins/frontend/gui/racebox_definition.xml, replacing <aEntry> and </aEntry> with <Entry> and </Entry>, it can be made available in racebox menu as a mode option. The mode crashes the game if either 2097 or WIP3OUT HUD style is selected, but is otherwise fully playable. It reuse HUD elements from Pulse.
Developement
This mode is still available in the racebox in a Beta build of WipEout HD in the same state as retail.
Trivia
This mode indirectly reappears in WipEout 2048 on the campaign grid twice as Single Races with special condition. As such, weapons (missiles to be exact) are available and the distance between ships isn't tracked.
