Icaras

Icaras is an AG racing team primarily based in Great Britain, but in the F7200 was an international enterprise which previously had no consistent base of central operations.

Created from scratch within 7 months as a passion project by Burnston Burns, an eccentric English entrepreneur known for his Four-Ize digital spectacles company, Icaras entered into the F7200 League with a very unique approach to AG racing. Their SunGod XVi chassis prioritized top-end speed above all else, and this meant poor agility, very poor acceleration. However, unlike the power-hungry speedsters of previous leagues, this ship also had poor durability. Their first two seasons were disastrous, failing to finish a single race. Humorously, the team complained that this was due to the state of the tracks, and celebrated even finishing a race as if it was a victory. After 30 years of racing as a fan favourite underdog story, the Icaras team closed following the death of Burnston.

Their return with the announcement of the FX300 League was a surprise to many. With Connor Burns as Team Director, a relative of Burnston, their approach to vehicle design became much more practical and afforded them much more success through to the FX400. Even with a modest privately funded budget compared to the international corporate titans, they developed the lightly-armoured successor to the SunGod to be far more agile and quick-launching without lacking for speed, which gave them much cause to boast and measure themselves against this generation of Piranha ships.

Returning with yet another marvel of race engineering, Icaras delivers a continuation of its “fragile speedster” formula. By stripping down on some Thrust compared to the previous model, the ship instead has significantly strengthened cornering grip.

Technical Information

Standard Chassis

  • Fastest Top Speed, tied with Piranha
  • Below average Thrust Acceleration, with minimized launch and slower speed recovery
  • Below average Handling, with slow Turning Rate but enhanced Ground Grip for lateral stability
  • Lowest Shield Capacity, making it the most fragile ship

While its low acceleration and durability demand careful defensive piloting in the racing pack, its dominant speed and surprising turning stability reward skilled racers who can maintain momentum and make a breakaway, making it an exceptional choice in nearly all tracks and Speed Classes.

Fury Prototype Chassis

  • Slight improvement to Thrust Acceleration
  • Slight improvement to Turning Rate
  • Top Speed and Shield Capacity remain the same

By covering-off two of the base chassis' aerodynamic weaknesses, this ship's high-speed domination only increases. General consensus and on-track performance show that this is considered to be the best choice in most cases by far, for pilots who can handle its unique characteristics and survive an onslaught of weapons fire.
