This is an old revision of the document!
Head to Head
A twist on the classic WipEout experience. Compete head-to-head with another pilot for the first place in a race where weapons are disabled. The gap between you and your opponent is displayed on the HUD.
Head to Head was featured in WipEout Pulse. While it could have been featured in WipEout HD as well, it was cut from the game.
In WipEout Pulse
This mode is available in both Racebox and the campaign grids. ( add screenshots or something!)
In WipEout HD
Head to Head was not officially featured in WipEout HD.
Re-enabling the game mode
It is possible to make the mode playable by modifying the game's assets. Edit the file:
data00.psarc/data/plugins/frontend/gui/racebox_definition.xml
Around line 42 of the document, replace the tags
<aEntry> and </aEntry>
with their correct spellings:
<Entry> and </Entry>
Upon restarting the game, Head to Head will become available in Racebox.
About
The mode is playable and mostly identical to its appearance in WipEout Pulse. The distance indicator HUD element is reused from WipEout Pulse. Additionally, if the HUD style is set to 2097 or WIP3OUT, the game freezes upon loading into the race.
Developement
This mode is still available in the racebox in a Beta build of WipEout HD in the same state as retail.
Trivia
This mode indirectly reappears in WipEout 2048 on the campaign grid twice as Single Races with special condition. As such, weapons (missiles to be exact) are available and the distance between ships isn't tracked.
